European Championship to Raelert aund Gajer

Exciting races to the final meters

Germans Andreas Raelert and Julia Gajer won the European Championships at Challenge Kraichgau presented by KraichgauEnergie. On perfect weather conditions both Germans set new course records.

Last years champion Andreas Raelert successfully defended his title. Raelert from Rostock left the water of lake Hardtsee at Ubstadt-Weiher with the leading group. On the bike he managed to control the race in the leading group. Frenchmen Syvain Sudrie took his chance by pushing hard on the bike at 60km and finished as second. Third place went to Sebastian Kienle.

Sudrie and German Konstantin Bachor pushed the pace on the bike and opened a gap to a group of 10 at Tiefenbach. The chasing group descented the bike within seconds at Bad Schoenborn. Once on the run hard facts were made. Andreae Raelert took the lead from Sudrie at run kilometer 5 and looked strong all the time. Kienle, who was not able to break the group on the bike, was on position 2 till kilometer 19 on the run. But he could not fight the last attack of Sudrie and was overtaken shortly in front of the finish.

President of German Triathlon Union Dr. Martin Engelhardt and the President of European Triathlon Union were impressed by the great atmosphere and exciting competitions. Not only was the number of athletes’ record breaking. With 50.000 also the number of spectators at the swim start at lake Hardtsee, on the bike course leading through the hilly landscape of the Kraichgau and on the run course at Bad Schoenborn was impressive. Race director Bjoern Steinmetz was delighted:  “Once again we proved Challenge Kraichgau a milestone in the region and Germany.”
