Maratona di Padova (Italy) 2007

April 22nd, 2007 will enter Italian marathon history: the debut of Luca Negri, ex Worldchampion in canoe (see interview), who took on the mythical 42.195km. Way to go Luca!!

It will also mark Help-for-Hope history, as the association's colours and tattoos were generously carried by Luca, for the first time in Italy, cradle to a number of world-class marathon runners.

It was a hot hot day: 30 degrees Celsius in the arrival area, the Piazza di Padova, Europe's largest Piazza (did we know that?). And not much cooler along the course of the race, a real challenge for endurance athletes.

The worldchampion "bite" in Luca pushed through. Braving the relentless heat, he finished the race in an astonishing 3:17. And that in his first marathon. Well done Luca, congratulations!! Off to a great start.

Some pictures from the race and beautiful Padova:

Luca on his last meters, in the Piazza di Padova, still looking fresh... (front runner in the picture)

Aaahh, feels good to be in the shade and off the feet... Tired but happy, and prominently sporting Help-for-Hope's tattoos on his arms and cheeks.

Tribute to Atelier Siebdruck, the tattoos have endured yet another marathon, in difficult conditions, and are top quality!

Recovering fast, and looking good!

The proof of the feat: time and medal... bravo Luca!
